Workshops
These three-day workshops run in Turkiye relate to the two SP research activities. The first focuses on academic writing, bringing together SP-research teams and their Cara-partnered mentors to work funding proposal or final research outputs for publication in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to its Open Society Foundations and Mellon Foundation grants, the SP has benefited from three British Academy (BA) Academic Writing Workshop Grants, secured by UK-university colleagues from IDS/Sussex, Surrey and Kent with the Cara SP a named partner. The latest awarded in the first half of 2023, aims to benefit previous BA grants alumni (SP participants) through a series of 7 monthly (Jul. 2023 to Jan. 2024) online sessions followed by two 3-day in-person workshops in 2024, the last to be run by the alumni. The second workshop series, initiated in Sep. 2022 as part of the SP Cara-commissioned Research (Phase 4), supports an action-research approach to the development and pilot of an HE quality-enhancement model with by Al Sham University faculty, to evidence adherence to international HE quality standards, i.e. European Standards and Guidelines, in the absence of formal institutional accreditation. Al-Sham is a not-for-profit private university, in a small HE sector that has emerged in the non-regime northwest of Syria since 2015.
