Dr. Imad Bark is an associate professor with a PhD in Sociology from Damascus University who specialises in the care and rehabilitation of people with special needs. Between 2000 and 2011, he worked in the Faculty of Education and Dept. of Sociology at both Homs and Latakia universities as well as in a number of institutes. In 2000, he took part in the ‘International Programme for Rehabilitation in the Local Community and Welfare of the Disabled in Syria’ a project initially funded by UNDP and later supported by JICA. Dr. Bark has also participated as an expert in reproductive health, in the rehabilitation of people with special needs, and family support projects and childcare for UNDP in Syria. In 2008 he became the Deputy Dean of the University of Homs Faculty of Education. Dr. Bark’s research interests relate to people with special needs, integration of people with disability, and children’s rights. He has published a number of studies and participated in many international, regional and local courses and conferences on these areas. Dr. Bark is currently President of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) Higher Education Council, in addition to teaching at Free Aleppo University.
