RT5 A Risk-based Approach to Quality Management & Assurance
Run in Gaziantep, RT5 focused on the overarching question of ‘Quality in HE’ and the adoption of a risk-based approach that places context at its heart, given the fragile realities in which Sham still operates. It brought senior Sham representatives (all SP participants), and the Head of the SIG HE Council, together with UK experts, to review potential approaches to validation, and how Sham might evidence its adherence to internationally recognised quality standards in HE, such as the ESG.
RT5 led to the launch of an SP action-research pilot to support the efforts of Sham colleagues to enhance and evidence the quality of the university’s provision, as well as to promote collegiality and collaboration across the HE sector in northwest Syria and provide useful lessons on which others in complex conflict affected environments can draw. A strategic-planning meeting in Gaziantep (28 September 2022) resulted in three workshops being run by Sham seniors over October-November 2022 to introduce Sham colleagues (admin and academic) to key quality management and assurance concepts and engage them in the pilot.
