Syrian Humming Project

The Syrian Humming Project, a sound art project, was part of a 2019, University of Edinburgh/Syria Programme collaboration and wider GCRF-funded ‘Syrian Food Futures’ initiative. It sought to capture the personal and collective memories of displaced Syrians relating to food and daily life, through their humming and has since expanded and evolved with Syrian families displaced across countries like Türkiye, Germany, France, and Scotland, invited to contribute their hums and songs online. Snippets of these recordings are available for listening on the Syrian Humming platform.
