Halfeti: The Sunken City
9 November, 2023 -Halfeti was an ancient Greek city on Türkiye’s northern coast. Established around the 6th century BCE, it thrived as a trading hub influenced by Greek, Persian, Roman, and Byzantine cultures. Halfeti lies submerged underwater, seismic activity and rising sea levels over time, with ongoing underwater excavations revealing its rich history.
The visit took place as part of a bonding exercise for Sham University faculty involved in the Cara Syria Programme November 2023 workshop ‘Programme Development and Assessments‘, run in Gaziantep as part of the ongoing SP/Sham ‘Higher Education Quality Enhancement’ pilot.
